This person will write and edit commentary pieces on the leading dealmaking events of the day. The opportunity also exists to get involved with producing and editing online video segments. Specific duties include:
- Write multiple blog posts for TheDeal.com throughout the business day.
- Manage inventory of Dealwatches – our comprehensive primers on active deals and industry sectors.
- Assist in production of TheDeal.com sites, video and other products.

Writing experience mandatory, 2-3 years

School seekers and students write about grad school

Tomorrow’s civic leaders learn about grad school through Idealist’s events and resources.

Soon they can learn from each other.

In fall 2008, Idealist will link its Public Service Graduate Education Resource Center (www.idealist.org/psgerc) to bloggers who take on grad school.

The resource center is a collection of articles and advice about researching and choosing schools, applying and financing a degree, and more. The resource center will not host the new blogs, but link to blogs elsewhere on the web.

Types of bloggers we are looking for
We aim to look at grad school from 9 different lenses

Current or prospective...
1. Doctoral candidate
2. International student pursuing a graduate degree in the United States who is a resident of the United States and intends to stay (immigrant)
3. International student pursuing a graduate degree in the United States who is a nonresident/alien who plans to leave the United States upon graduation (F1 Visa)
4. U.S. citizen pursuing a degree outside the United States
5. Grad student enrolled in a joint degree program
6. Part-time grad student working full-time
7. Former participant in a term-of-service program (Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, Teach For America, etc.) who is taking advantage of an educational benefit associated with service
8. Undergraduate applying to grad school, with the aim of enrolling the fall after college graduation
9. Masters degree candidate

Volunteer Blogger Responsibilities
• Choose topics that reflect your experience at whatever stage you happen to be at right now in the grad school process
• Choose topics that take into consideration what Idealist users and other prospective graduate students should know
• Aim to publish new posts at least once a week for a year
• Remain professional in your tone and language
• Respect other guidelines we suggest as much as possible
• Communicate with the Idealist blog project coordinator as requested or as necessary

Qualifications
We’re looking for volunteer bloggers who have:
• Embarked on a public service career path, or who aspire to do so
• Excellent written communication skills
• Creativity, friendliness, and a sense of humor

Q: I do not live in a city where Idealist has an office. Can I still apply?
A: The volunteer bloggers may live and study anywhere in the world. We encourage geographic diversity.

Q: I am graduating from college. Am I still eligible to apply?
A: Yes. At least one of our bloggers will be a graduating college student.

Q: Must I be a U.S. citizen to apply?
A: U.S. citizens and non-citizens are both eligible to apply.

Q: What are the dates of this program?
A: We hope our volunteer bloggers will commit to blogging for one year. We reserve the right to remove our link to your blog if it remains inactive for over six weeks, or if a post disregards our guidelines in key ways.
